The story 'The Mysterious Picture' is an excerpt taken from the Belgian writer Charles De Coster's masterpiece work, ' The Adventures of Thyl Ulenspiegel and Lamme Goedzak'.
The protagonist of the story is a Flemish painter named Tyl. The story begins with Tyl reaching the palace of the Archduke of Battenburg on a donkey. He is very lean and messy in appearance, and he also wore a cap with so many bright feathers on it. At the main entrance of the palace, Tyl was kept held by the Captain of the Guards. The captain was a tall, well dressed and well - built man of twenty five with red hair. When the captain learned that Tyl is a Flemish painter and he is here to present one of his paintings to the Archduke, he let him in to the palace because Flemish painters and their paintings were in huge demand all over Europe.
